The Embassy of Ireland in Vilnius is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and hardworking person with a track record in executive driving to fill a full-time Driver/Messenger role at the Embassy.
Role and Responsibilities:
The precise range of duties will vary over time according to the requirements of the Embassy. This role will include, but may not be limited to the following activities:
- Driving the Ambassador to and from official engagements, driving other Embassy staff, picking up official visitors as required
- Coordination of transport logistics for staff, visitors and office functions including the official car for the Head of Mission and hired vehicles and drivers
- Support itinerary planning for the Ambassador and for official visitors
- Maintaining the official vehicle (bringing for regular services, washing and cleaning etc.)
- Manage vehicle safety and roadworthiness,
- Assisting in the renewal of Embassy’s car insurance, vehicle registration and any other administration related to the vehicle
- Complete monthly vehicle distance/fuel logbooks
- Keeping track of mileage, fuel, and toll expenses;
- Assisting with Embassy events - transporting and loading equipment as required
- Daily collection/delivery of post; managing the dispatch of diplomatic letters
- Assisting with maintenance issues at the Chancery and Residence as required
- Assist Senior Consular Officer in processing visa applications

Essential requirements:
- Full Lithuanian/EU driving license with no penalty points or history of disqualification
- Candidates must be able to communicate to a high standard in English and Lithuanian
- Extensive previous professional driving experience including at executive level (minimum 5 years)
- Clean and current driving licence, and highly competent driving skills
- Record of driving accident free
- A very good geographical knowledge of the region
- Security management skills, understanding of security operations and procedures
- Able to exercise good judgement and decision making
- Familiarity with typical office computer equipment and software (e.g. MS Office), and navigation technology
- A high level of discretion, commitment and reliability
- A flexible attitude, good judgement and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Excellent punctuality and time management
- Ability to use GPS/online maps
- Availability to work out-of-hours and additional hours, as required
- Medical/Health checks will apply
- The successful candidate must have a legal entitlement to live and work in Lithuania prior to recruitment
Desirable skills/requirements
- Previous experience driving for a diplomatic mission or government or international institution
- Ability to speak Russian or Belarusian is highly desirable
Terms and conditions of empoyment
- The successful candidates will be hired on a fixed-term contractual basis and will be based at the Embassy of Ireland, Vilnius
- Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week (excluding breaks), with standard office hours from 09:00 to 18:00. Drivers will be expected to work outside these hours routinely This will include long distance travel both within Lithuania and to neighbouring countries. An overtime allowance applies
- Annual Leave entitlement 20 days per annum
- The salary for the position is €26,748.92 gross per annum, paid locally on a monthly basis. Salaries are paid direct to a bank account, therefore, the successful candidate must have a bank account
- Smoking is not permitted in the official vehicle, the Embassy or the Ambassador’s Residence

Selection Process:
- Depending on the number of applications received, a short-listing of candidates to be called for a competency-based interview may be undertaken based on the Essential/Key Requirements above
- It is planned that interviews will be held in person in August 2026
- A skills test will be included in the recruitment process
- A second interview may be included in the recruitment process
- A panel may be set up depending on the calibre of candidates

Security Clearance for Local Staff
Police security clearance will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for appointment.
