Engineering manager
Job description:
The Search team collects public data from the world's biggest search engines at a massive scale of billions of requests per week to keep the internet free and open. As an Engineering Manager, you will partner with our Tech Lead to grow the team, shape our autonomous working methods, and ensure our products remain fast, stable, and reliable. With our data powering entire industries and top AI labs, we are constantly adapting to rapid environmental changes and new technologies launched by search engines. Your challenge is to lead the team through complex technical problems - like deep packet inspection and browser patching - while maintaining high data integrity, strict SLA adherence, and a healthy work-life balance for the engineers.
- Apply our leadership principles to guide your team and drive results.
- Own the team's operational results, ensuring high success rates, data integrity, fast response times, and strict adherence to SLAs.
- Guide the team through complex technical challenges, including browser patching, network traffic analysis, and building self-healing autonomous scrapers.
- Establish and continuously improve the team's autonomous delivery processes, focusing on actual results rather than traditional sprint rituals.
- Balance rapid incident response with strategic, long-term engineering work to eliminate root causes of problems.
- Hire, mentor, and protect the team from burnout by sharing the load fairly and aligning with product stakeholders on critical priorities.
Requirements:
- Background as a software engineer with proven experience leading and scaling engineering teams in production environments.
- Deep understanding of web fundamentals, including HTTP, browsers, system design, and networking, to effectively guide complex technical decisions.
- Strong data-driven decision-making skills with a focus on tracking reliability and performance metrics.
- Ability to stay calm, adapt quickly, and thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift based on external technological changes.
- Good English communication skills, capable of thriving in an international, hybrid team setting.
Nice to have
- Experience with Python or Go.
- Experience with web scraping, anti-bot systems, or network protocols (we will teach you if you don't have it).
- Experience with browser internals (Chromium, Firefox).
Company offers:
- 40+ internal learning options, external conferences, mentorship, and year-round knowledge-sharing.
- Private health insurance, psychotherapy, on-site well-being consultants, 24/7 gym access, and a wellness app.
- Team events, an overseas workation, quarterly team-building budgets, and plenty of ways to mark milestones together.
- Bonus vacation days, paid life-moment days off, barista coffee, and all the tools you need.
