Job description:

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Ethos Engineering, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of high-performance building services projects across a range of sectors. You will lead mechanical design from concept to completion, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate closely with clients and project teams to achieve technical excellence and innovative, sustainable outcomes. This is a leadership-oriented, technically hands-on role for a proactive and detail-focused professional.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical services design on projects, overseeing delivery from early-stage concepts through to construction and handover.
  • Champion Ethos’ mechanical design standards and drive the adoption of sustainable and innovative engineering solutions.
  • Coordinate and manage multidisciplinary engineering teams, ensuring timely and high-quality outputs.
  • Act as a key liaison with clients, architects, project managers, and contractors on all mechanical design-related matters.
  • Prepare technical specifications and comprehensive tender packages, including design reports, analysis, and recommendations.
  • Oversee design and installation quality checks, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and project requirements.
  • Define project scope in collaboration with clients and design teams.
  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to graduate and junior engineers.
  • Contribute to design reviews, workshops, site visits, and commissioning activities as required.

Requirements:

Technical Skills

  • Mechanical Building Services design, including HVAC systems, domestic water, chilled water, heating, ventilation, and fire protection systems.
  • Strong knowledge of industry regulations and standards including CIBSE, ASHRAE, IS, BS, and EN.
  • Proficiency in software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and mechanical calculation tools (e.g. IES, Hevacomp, or similar).
  • Familiarity with energy modelling, low carbon technologies, and sustainable design best practices.
  • Ability to carry out mechanical load calculations, sizing, and equipment selection with precision.
  • Experience in the production and coordination of detailed mechanical design drawings and schedules.

Experience & Qualifications

  • 6–8+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering within the building services sector
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it (CEng or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated experience leading mechanical design on building projects
  • Exposure to a range of project types such as commercial, residential, life sciences, healthcare, or data centres.
